He and his partner, Nancy Weigandt, have founded The Garden Detroit, a nonprofit dedicated to repurposing vacant land and turning blighted lots into beautiful and productive places of sanctuary through flower farming within the city. Adiraja and Nancy also run a cut-flower farm and grow organic vegetables on a two-acre farm named The Garden.

I love cooking and reading cookbooks. I love eating vegetarian food.
So what's not to love about this cookbook? When I bought this used, thankfully , I didn't realize that strict Hindus sometimes shun garlic, as it "fuels impure desires and thoughts. I practically live on garlic I adore it , and while the photos are appetizing, I just can't handle using a cookbook full of recipes with nary a clove in sight.

I eventually discovered it by chance earlier this year whilst reading about the actress Hayley Mills who provides the forward for this book.
The Hare Krishna Book of Vegetarian Cooking is a wonderfully presented and beautiful vegetarian book of Indian recipes. It contains much interesting information, especially about a balanced and nutritious vegetarian diet. The recipes are many I had read about this book years ago, but then struggled to find out what it was called again for nearly a decade! The recipes are many and contain a good variety - soups and stews, rice dishes, breakfasts, beverages. There are also nice accompanying photographs of prepared dishes.
I'm very glad I finally found this gem of a book. This book saved my life! In , after receiving his masters degree from New York University, Adiraja left the United States for the Orient to pursue his twin interests: Oriental religion and exotic cooking. Three years later, in India, he heard about the path of devotion to Lord Krishna, where cooking, like all other human activities, is perfectly integrated into spiritual life. In he met the devotees of the Hare Krishna movement in Switzerland and became an active member. Since then, he has delighted devotees and guests with his mastery of both cooking and philosophy. Adiraja now lives at the Hare Krishna center near Paris, where in be published a cookbook in French, Un Gout Supeture sans Frontieres, an association he created that works in cooperation with the government of France to feed needy people. During the winter of Nourriture sans Frontieres gave over 35, meals to homeless people in Paris. At present Adiraja is writing a cookbook to teach children the Indian arts of cooking, serving and eating, and is overseeing the translation of his latest cookbook into different languages.
